SpaceKidets Golden Wings is made up of several programs.

The first is made up of 10 modules many of which contain interative infographics and quizzes. The learner follows the interactives, completes the quiz and downloads the certificate.

There is an end part graduation where the SpaceKidet completes a quiz which covers all 9 modules. Once passed they download their first golden wing. They are now ready to go onto the Golden Wings modules. But before we go to those, what's in the first Single-Wing program, what must SpaceKidets complete to progress?

Module Three -  Astrophotography with a webcam

This is where many young SpaceKidets (and their parents) want to go. We look at how to use a basic web camera to image the Moon and the Planets. We walk you through step by step of how to add the web camera to the telescope assembly. We then look at how to connect it up to a computer and how we can then use it to capture some amazing images.

Covered in this module are,

  • How to image the Moon and process the data. How to make a mosaic of the Moon and stitch the images.
  • How to image a planet (we chose Jupiter!
  • In each case, the files are available to play with for those who lack the equipment (or the weather!).
  • New added material

Module Four

Setting up an equatorial mount

Many have asked us how to use an equatorial telescope, in this module, we hope we answered it! We’ve looked at a telescope which we resell, a 70mm equatorial refractor. We have looked at the bits it arrived with from the factory. We looked at how to assemble it together all with the assistance of Grace Hankin, one of our SpaceKidets and GCSE Students!

We then look at how to actually set the telescope up from balancing the weight of the tube to balancing with a counterweight, explaining why its so important.

We then continue to look at how we align the finder with the main telescope and move onto how to align the mount with the polestar.

We finish with a look at some of the things we can see with the telescope. Great videos to watch with explanations in text format!

Module Six - Space Rocks

Don't know your meteors from your meteorites? Your asteroids from your bolide's?

Don't know any of these terms? This is the module for you!

We will look at the different types of meteorites in this module, different types that fell and what they're made of.

SpaceKidets - Module Seven - Chemistry of the Stars

We are all made of stardust, but did you know we can actually find out what stars are made of from their light? when you split star light using a prism you see dark lines, called Fraunhofer lines (these are like the stars fingerprint) these tell us what the star is made of - sign up to learn more!

SpaceKidets - Module Eight - history of rockets

We can all guess that rockets started with the Chinese and their fireworks. but how did they get from there to put a man on the Moon? This exciting module explores just that!

Image

SpaceKidets - Module Nine - Extras

This module contains some other work we did that doesn't really fit too well with the other modules.

Bits about the space race and so on.

Module 10 - Black Holes

Black holes, the most deadly, the most powerful force in the universe, but what are they? Where are they? why are they so powerful, this mission seeks to answer these questions!
